Reportedly, Khaksar was unhappy with Al Queda influence in the Taliban, and so agreed to serve as a mole for the United States in 1999. Khaksar was assassinated by two motorcycle gunmen on 14 January 2006, possibly by elements of al Qaeda. The Taliban took credit for the slaying.
